Strange nuggets

Vegan faux chicken nuggets and veggiesThis was really a strange experience: these things are marketed as ‘faux’ chicken nuggets (another use of French that both annoys me and cracks me up at the same time – don’t ask me to mime that one).

The thing is, they really do taste like chicken, from what I remember.  So it’s very disconcerting and bizarre to eat them.  I don’t think I can cope with the contradiction of meat-tasting soy protein.  Does that make me wimpish?

Recipe in the comments.

-As many ‘faux’ chicken nuggets as you can deal with (mine were Fry’s)
    -Leek
    -Carrot
    -Jerusalem artichoke
    -Slivered almonds
    -Lentils
    -Rye bread
    -Tofutti slice

I cut up the leek, carrot, artichoke tiny tiny and fried them in a bit of olive oil. I threw in some lentils, the almonds, added some soy sauce and pepper (no salt, the soy sauce is usually enough I find).
I cooked the nuggets 4 minutes on each side, and grilled a Tofutti slice on some rye bread to go with.
As soon as we started eating I decided we needed relish – but I didn’t get a picture of it. Mix some tomato paste, vegan Worcestershire sauce, water, pepper and voilà! Any food (weird nuggets included) is usually better with relish.

It’s like Qorn. Mushroom based proteins which taste like meat…incredible….and nice for me. I could be vegetarian if that were available in France!

But I understand why you wouldn’t like something tasting like meat when you have decided to give it up. Not wimpish at all, just standing by your choices!
