That’s bright isn’t it?  The light in my kitchen is awkward so I resorted to flash.

Recipe in the comments.

9

Posted in photo, regular by Sabine on October 5, 2009

9 years ago today, I woke up at 5 and my first thought was ‘I’m getting married!’.  It was still night outside.  I remember putting on my wedding dress (dark pink and dark red), then a shirt over it and sneakers (which looked awesome…) to avoid disasters while getting my hair and make-up done.  I remember fishing out of the fridge the hair pins that had spent the night in the vegetable drawer to keep their flowers fresh.

I remember trying to manage on the cobblestones in the Aix-en-Provence town hall courtyard, with 9 cm heels (never again).  I remember standing during the ceremony and holding Christian’s hand the whole time.  I remember thinking ‘I hope at least one photograph of me looks decent’ (more than one did), and that rice at high speed hurts the teeniest amount.

I drank a lot of champagne.

Each year since then we add one little stone to a tiny ring, our anniversary ring.  I have small fingers so mine is getting full.  I can’t believe I can count up to 9 on it already.  God that went fast.

Vegan Month of Food

Posted in regular by Sabine on October 5, 2009

I’m not a very old vegan (maybe 5-ish months old), but I decided to take part in this year’s VMOF (or Vegan Mofo, which sounds really bad ass!).  This means I will be posting pictures of what I make for breakfast, lunch and dinner (and snacks) about 5 days a week.  For those of you who are interested, recipes for everything will be in the comments.  For those of you who aren’t, I won’t be only posting about vegan food all month so hopefully you won’t be too bored!

(I stole the banner from Kittee, who stole it from Katie.)

Round we went

Posted in photo, regular by Sabine on October 4, 2009

Today I went to my first ‘Round she goes‘ market (a thrifty secondhand clothing heaven).  Armed with some amazing sidekicks who helped me make some tough decisions (and bought me gifts!!), I managed to spend only $27 and brought home some real goodies.  And even though I always tell myself not to buy anything stripy, I always do.  Don’t judge!

Travesty vegetable

Posted in quote by Sabine on October 3, 2009

‘Those are kind of nice I guess, for a travesty of nature.’

Christian is warming up to beetroot chips!  Considering he describes beetroot as purple snot, this is a milestone.

I’m on a horse

Posted in regular by Sabine on October 2, 2009

‘Really?’ you ask.

Well, no.  The closest I ever got was a pony ride when I was 6.  ’Being on a horse’ in French (‘Être à cheval’, the literal translation) means to have beliefs or principles that are non negotiable.  So for tonight, I will tell you a few things I’m on a horse about:

  • Crap food (with letters, numbers and colours as ingredients).
  • Screaming on the street: I am easily startled (remember?).
  • Bad hygiene: disrespectful (please smell nice in public places) and just plain gross.
  • Tracksuit pants or tops when not exercising.  I don’t care how comfortable they are.
  • Rudeness.
  • Wearing a skirt over pants, which every girl in Melbourne seemed to insist on doing in 2002.  I’m still scarred.
  • Using French words for effect while speaking another language and getting the spelling (accents people!) or gender wrong.  I know, I’m a snob.

Maybe in retrospect not such a good idea to share things that irritate me before my bedtime.  Now I’m all worked up.
