Need fixing

Posted in regular by Sabine on November 17, 2009

A little piece broke off from my right ‘all-the-way-to-the-back tooth’ yesterday*.  Instead of doing the sensible thing and booking a dentist appointment, I’m considering getting my hair done this week instead.  I know, I have my priorities straight.

*À la Liz Lemon spitting out a whole tooth in 30 Rock.  Except, I ate the little piece right along with the carrot I was chomping on, wondering why it tasted a bit sandy.

You can put something on and feel yourself and yet special.

Uniform Natural Gathering Dress

Martha (of Uniform Natural) said so.  And since I usually want to buy the whole shop when I visit, I believe her.

As far as clothing is concerned, I don’t have much to spend so I only op-shop (and maybe buy the occasional pair of cheap vegan shoes, since they can be hard to find second-hand).  I squirm at the idea of spending a small fortune on a piece of clothing* (especially the chain-store kind) – and I don’t like fashion’s seasonal cycles, or even the word ‘fashion’ itself.

I sometimes have a confidence crisis in the morning when I am getting dressed that I will look too boring, since I dress myself in basics and staples.  Usually though I really like how it turns out.  Christian and I refer to it as ‘the Zen approach’ – in other words, if you care too much or try too hard, it will look wrong and forced.  That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.

*Although I wouldn’t mind dropping $200 on the pictured dress (which you can find at Uniform Natural).  I think I would feel myself and very special wearing it…

A conversation with my mother-in-law

Posted in quote by Sabine on November 15, 2009

A little humour goes a long way in my crazy workaholic schedule at the moment.  My mother-in-law (whom I refer to as ‘Belle-Maman’) and I had this curious little exchange the other day:

Belle-Maman: ‘Do you have flies in France?’

Me: ‘Yes, we do but they’re not like here: they don’t annoy you, they just leave you alone.’

Belle-Maman: ‘How funny!  Polite French flies!’.

Ha, ha.

12/24

They’re called ‘Best Intentions’, and they are getting an ass-whooping from some crazy 12 or 14 (yikes!) hour workdays.  I miss rambling about nothing…  I will ramble very soon, promised.

On another note, my hair is really dry and crappy at the moment, and wants to do its own dry/crappy thing every single day.  Anyone got any ideas for me?
